Planning imposes order on the chaotic process of changing or doing something new, it is a peering-into-the-future and lights the way. I strive for realistic and honest planning, to accurately describe what is needed while accounting for outside risks and contingency.


One eye on the why

A project exists to produce a defined outcome for the business - the outcome is of importance, not the deliverables.

I manage projects with one eye on the why, regularly re-focusing on the value and benefits the business needs from the delivery beyond the timeline, budget and physical deliverables.


Details matter

Details have special talents to create big problems and can easily railroad budgets, timelines, scope or quality. I balance attention to detail with an eagleā€™s point of view for optimum delivery.


Manage both Change and Transition

Change is fast, transition is slow. Addressing the transition that people experience during change is key to successfully realising benefits, mitigating the risks of change and sustaining it long-term.


Augment the project team

The people in the business make the work happen, and project management ought to develop and protect the environment for them to do so. I focus on serving the project team to meet project targets by protecting momentum, sustaining communication channels, removing roadblocks, and coalescing knowledge so that everyone can stay abreast of the bigger picture. I champion their success and progress to leadership.


Creative

Great project management requires imagination; to see and bring to life that which does not yet exist. I balance the discipline and rigour of conventional PMā€™ing with the flexibility and willingness to address unknowns with unconventional, uncharted, or untested methods.
